Oh hey there gorgeous! I'm Alex, journalist by day, blogger by night and one half of Lyles and King gallery along with my husband, Isaac. I started The Street Where I Live during the frigid New York City January of 2015 as an excuse to stay in bed with my laptop on a Saturday morning, as well as a useful way to claim that I needed to drink more wine for "writing inspiration". Needless to say, both these dirty tricks were swiftly foiled once the real hard business of blogging took over, and I fell in love with taking care of this little part of the internet and all those who venture here (especially the latter).
I called this blog "The Street Where I Live" because, after a tough and anxious day during the aforementioned polar vortex, I happened to catch a late night showing of the classic movie "My Fair Lady". Watching the film, I fell in love with this famous song about how a seemingly banal street can be made beautiful and anew, simply from being touched my love. It's certainly a skill to see the sublime in the domestic, but that's what this blog aims to encourage and celebrate in you. Here, you'll find thoughts on careers, fashion, homes, marriage and relationships- a (hopefully) winning mix of high and low brow musings on how to live with heart and soul upon the many and varied streets where we live. So with that in mind, join me on this wonderful, hilarious, decidedly imperfect and occasionally totally maddening journey. Together it's better.
